Our quick take on the Beetle is simple.
Buy if you love the style and want to have fun in the sun.
Our mellow yellow was definitely for a female audience
or a really happy male.
This vehicle definitely cheers you up in convertible mode.
The interior is simple and functional.
We think that the Tiptronic gear lever could be replaced by buttons
on the steering wheel and gear shift paddles behind the steering wheel.
A higher end interior would also look nicer,
with more use of painted parts and a more covered look inside.
At $27,370 it is quite an expensive vehicle to buy just for the fun factor.
It is much easier to drive this Tiptronic version compared
to the manual transmission Beetle we have tested in the past.
The suspension however does need some work.
The beetle bounces on bumpy roads.
The Beetle convertible comes with a power top
that folds down in a matter of seconds.
The windows are very large and don't have a door frame which makes
it a very open-aired car once everything is down.
In fact, we drove passengers around who usually don't like drop-tops,
but they found it to be very roomy and free feeling since
so much of the car was open to the sky.
The top folds to the rear on top of itself which creates a wing.
This can then be covered to add a better look.
A wind blocking screen fits over the rear seat and works
very well but did take a bit of time to get in.
The Beetle is a great car if you love the style and ride.
Nothing really competes or compares for the person who loves the style.
